PSA

I got hit by a car while cycling home today. I'm okay, but for a value of okay that involved spending five hours at Whipps Cross A & E where they put my fractured left wrist in plaster. I have a nasty graze on my cheek, too. Nothing life-threatening, or likely to be long-term serious.

All plans for the next week or so are potentially off, and any plans involving my driving a car any time in the next couple of months should be re-arranged (sorry [livejournal.com profile] dreamsewing).

Get well soon, as they say

I'm really sorry to hear this. I find London streets seems very terrifying for biking in general and think you're pretty brave for trying to bike commute here in the first place. I will barely do it when it's sunny out.

Oh, cock - very glad you're OK, and I hope it doesn't hurt too much as it heals. Can't remember if you're right-handed.

Yes, I am right-handed, which in this case is fortunate. Not least because I could actually sign the police statement this morning. That said, even my right wrist is very sore, and not up to any prolonged use or sustained pressure. Fortunately, I can flush the toilet with my feet. ;-)

Impressive pedexterity (or something similar)! very glad it didn't get your dominant hand as badly.

Hope it all becomes less painful soon. It's utterly rotten.

I can and often do flush toilets with my feet, but then I do have excellent pedexterity or whatever it's called. Mainly ones at work where the cistern bites your hand and I don't have sufficient wrist/hand strength for them.

I used to use my feet more than my hands cos they were quite screwed when I was small. Feet make excellent toast stacks.

*Hugs*

I've heard that comfrey works well for helping bones to knit back together.

*Long distance cuddles*

Sounds horrible, hope you're not feeling too shaken up today and are able to take it easy.

Meep! That's horrible. I'm very sorry to hear you got hit by ignorant and stupid driver and also glad you're not more hurt.

[identity profile] hieroglyphe.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Eek! Glad that the damage doesn't seem too severe, and hope that they've given you good painkillers (the ones I got after a truck ran over my foot were ace).

I'm glad you survived it. I've been frightened for Rob cycling to work in this weather. Though not today, it's lovely here today.

[identity profile] wildeabandon.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh poor you. I'm glad that it wasn't worse, and sorry it happened at all. Take care of yourself, and I hope you heal quickly.

Ow ow ow :( *hugs*

Hope you're not doing too badly.

Sorry to hear about it, hope the driver is traced and prosecuted. Hope your wrist mends well and doesn't trouble you in later life. Having broken my left wrist twice I well understand the shock of realising just how much you use *both* hands, but I'm sure you have good support mechanisms and will survive. My advice, if you wanted it, would be to take time out, rest and allow recovery - don't try to do too much too soon!

Oh, crap! Hope you're not in too much pain, and that everything heals quickly.

Sorry if you've heard this already, but it might be worth seeing your GP and talking about a physio referral for when the plaster comes off.

I'm very sorry to hear that. You may know that I had a similar accident a year ago, almost to the day. I hope that you recover fully and quickly, as for the most part I did. And if this wasn't just a case of 'shit happens', I hope the person responsible compensates you—I never found out what happened in my case.

All the very best.

Yikes! I hope you heal fast.

Ow. Get well soon.

[identity profile] valkyriekaren.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you poor thing! Hope you have a swift and relatively painfree recovery (and I hope they've given you The Good Drugs to help with that).

[identity profile] oilrig.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Erk! [livejournal.com profile] artremis texted me, but not the details. Hope recovery is swift, and retribution on the twit responsible even swifter ;)

[identity profile] haggis.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! I hope you are doing as well as possible and heal quickly.

(OT - last weekend was fab but I realised I left without giving you the money I owed you. Let me know how I can get it to you whenever is convenient for you.)

[identity profile] elfgeek.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
even though I missed yesterday's post, just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery.

[identity profile] ellbie.livejournal.com 2009-02-11 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! God, how awful. Very, very, very sorry to hear this. I really hope you're not too shaken up and the injuries heal as fast as possible.

Great big best wishes and sympathy.

Ludy told me on the phone today. I'm sorry this happened to you. Hope you feel better soon.

And yes, it could have been much worse etc etc - but that doesn't negate the fact you're hurt and in pain!
