PSA

I got hit by a car while cycling home today. I'm okay, but for a value of okay that involved spending five hours at Whipps Cross A & E where they put my fractured left wrist in plaster. I have a nasty graze on my cheek, too. Nothing life-threatening, or likely to be long-term serious.

All plans for the next week or so are potentially off, and any plans involving my driving a car any time in the next couple of months should be re-arranged (sorry [livejournal.com profile] dreamsewing).

I'm so glad you're mostly okay. Heal quickly and well.

Hope that bone does some good knitting

YEEP! I'm glad that you're in some vague value of okay, and I hope the injuries sustained heal quickly.

Happy to hear that you are OKFSVOOK. Did the driver of the automobile stop to see if you were NDFTOVODTM (Not Dead For The Only Value Of Dead That Matters)?

No. Nor did I get the licence plate. In the unlikely event that the police can trace the car (which would basically mean much better CCTV coverage than even the UK has - anti-Liberal levels, in fact - including a clear shot of the accident itself) the book will be thrown. They really don't like people not stopping after an accident.

Unfortunately, about all I know about the car is that it's a pale-coloured saloon; it has a bonnet (I know this because that's what hit me) and a boot/trunk (I know this because I saw it disappearing round the next corner). It wasn't even going especially fast. I'd seen it and thought 'car seems to be slowing down for the junction: has presumably seen me and will stop so I don't need to emergency brake ... fuck! *thud* *crunch*'. I'm really not into asserting priority over cars on my bicycle however in the right I know I am - that's not a battle one can win.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Hope your fracture heals OK. xx

Ouch.

I'm glad that you are not more seriously injured. You do have my sympathy.

[identity profile] sinboy.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear you're doing OK. I hope the guy who hit you stopped, at least.

[identity profile] bethanthepurple.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
FUCK!
That sounds horribly scary. Hope you had access to a few gallons of sweet tea (and details of the motorist).

i assume your suing car drivers insurance for damages?

Ow. That's not really okay, in my book. Glad you were not damaged worse.

Well, it's a matter of degree, of course. But I could be so much worse off. In a couple of months I expect I'll be pretty much back to normal, and in a year or two there won't be any reminders. In the mean time, I can walk, and can type, and although my face got a bit scraped, my head basically seems to be fine. In 'cyclist getting hit by car' terms, that's basically OK. ;-)

Crikey! Glad to hear you're okay.

[identity profile] barking-watcher.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Jeez, that sounds mega scary. Hope you get better soon

[identity profile] envoy.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Holey crap! I'm glad your (FSVO OK) OK. Where did this happen?

[identity profile] faerierhona.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you are OKish, and I hope that whoever hot you is plagues with guilt and nightmares, wondering how whoevever they didn't bloody bother to stop for is faring. I hope they hand themselves in eventually, but I doubt it.

Is there anything practical you need help with? I know I probably live too far away to be much help, but do let me know if I can?

*hugs*

Ouch! Glad you're mainly okay, but a broken wrist is no fun. Hope you've got some nice painkillers.
Hope to see and cuddle you soon, but understand if you can't make tomorrow.
xx

I very much doubt I'll be able to make tomorrow, sorry. It will probably be a few days before I'm up to leaving the house for any length of time.

Oh no! :(
I am glad you are not more seriously injured but :( that you are injured and it happened.

Offers gentle hugs and hope you heal fast and easily.

Oh shit hon. :( *hugs*

I hope you recover quickly and karma bites that guy in the ass.

Buggeration! I'm pleased you're ok, and that WHipps Cross didn't finish you off.

Take care, take it easy and don't go swimming in the cast.
